The event was hosted by Stewart Brand, Ryan Phelan, Danica Remy and an amazing group of volunteers, in the Art Institute’s beautiful atrium at Pier 2 in Fort Mason.

In the afternoon, Whole Earth alumni gathered in the atrium of the Art Institute for a series of lightning talks featuring community members like Larry Brilliant, Carolyn Garcia, Bruce Sterling and Wavy Gravy, to name but a few.

Whole Earth Flashbacks, a video history of the Whole Earth culture created by Fabrice Florin and friends, played all day long in the Gray Box room -- and in the Caldwell Theater, right before the evening talks.

In the evening, a public event at the Cowell Theatre featured talks with Rusty Schweickart, Kevin Kelly, Simone Giertz, Howard Rheingold, Chip Conley, Stephanie Mills, Stephanie Feldstein, Stewart Brand and Sal Khan.

Many thanks to all the folks who organized and participated in this event! It was a wonderful way to honor a culture that helped change the world and that may inspire many others for years to come.
FLASHBACKS PHOTOS

This community-created photo album features 450+ historical photos on the evolution of the Whole Earth culture, from 1966 to 2018. It covers projects like the first Whole Earth Catalogs, the Co-Evolution Quarterly, the Whole Earth Review, the Hackers Conference, the Well, Wired, Burning Man and the 10,000 Year Clock. These projects had one thing in common: they gave access to tools and ideas to help people bring their dreams to life -- and change the world.
This photo retrospective was produced and edited by Fabrice Florin, with the help of over 60 community members. Major photo contributors include Stewart Brand, Matisse Enzer, Kevin Kelly, Ryan Phelan, Danica Remy, Howard Rheingold and David Wills.
